Meg Hamilton of Rodeo & Co. Photography: Balancing Natural and Traditional

Filed under: weddings — Lindsay @ 6:34 am

Meet SnapKnot member, Meg Hamilton of Rodeo & Co. Photography, a New Hampshire mother of two and a talented wedding photographer. In her personal life Meg may whip up a mean meatloaf, but in the professional world she wows with her journalistic yet traditional wedding photos.

Meg's two little boys

Tell us a bit about yourself. I live in a sweet little house out in the woods of Northern New Hampshire with my husband and our two little guys Marcus {almost 3} and Henry {4 months}.

Why did you choose to become a photographer? I love documenting the happy, pretty, real moments in life. I’ve always been the nerd with the camera- I don’t think I chose to become a photographer }, but rather, it just happened. Everything in life happens for a reason; sometimes, it just takes a bit to figure it out! In fact I was an arson investigator first….where I honed my skills for macro details….weddings are a lot more up-lifting & allow me the flexibility to be the best possibly mama that I can be!

How long have you been a photographer? I officially launched Rodeo & Co. Photography in 2003….but I think I had my first Fisher-Price 110 blue number at age 6.

How would you classify your style of photography? A true blend of journalistic + traditional styles….I strive hard to keep a balance.

Who or what are some of your influences on either a personal or professional level? Jackie O., Martha Stewart & photographer Carla Ten Eyck, and both of my amazing grandmothers {one is amazing quilter, cook, and gardener at age 92 & the other a police officer…and at 82 still directs traffic!} I am naturally drawn to pretty much everything from the 50′s, straight lines, pretty fabrics, and soft light.

Do you have any good wedding stories? Aren’t they all? Seriously. Each wedding is special and unique. I’ve seen my fair share of mishaps…but these make the wedding memorable. Just a few weeks ago the groom forgot the ring….apparently he is always forgetful & it was the sweetest possible thing.

What’s your preferred type of camera equipment? Canon. Canon. Canon.

What would you recommend for a couple just starting their search for a wedding photographer? To look at the style of the photographer first, and see if it fits what you are looking for. If you don’t love everything you see on their website, you might not love what you get after your wedding.

Any fun personal facts we should know about you? I make a mean meatloaf, ride a little pony, and love listening to John Prine.
