We used Firstlight for our family photos. They are amazing! The photographer and wife were a blast to work with and made our experience really great! Will for sure use them for our son's senior portraits! Would refer them to anyone!

Hi Caroline,

This series is something we had been developing for a while to help photographers think in a long term way when considering paid marketing investment. We wanted to provide a framework for a fairly simple yet often misunderstood method to compare the paid vs. free models on an expected return basis.

The timing was coincidental to your particular downgrade. You were a Diamond member for a month before you wished to downgrade - this is exactly the kind of thinking that we feel hurts photographers in the long term, as we explain in Part 1 of the series. The investment only makes sense if you give it the time necessary to evaluate it based on the equations we provide - otherwise cutting short the time will sometimes result in disappointment.

SnapKnot is not, nor is intended to be, a magic bullet - you mention other marketing tools like social media and wedding blogs. These are in fact great tools and we encourage photographers to take advantage. SnapKnot is meant to be another tool in your marketing mix to help get you those additional inquiries every year. Thus far our members have had a spectrum of success, as can be expected given a wide range of style, experience, and price points across a small yet growing website.

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate input from our photographers as we grow and improve the site for both members and engaged couples.

Best,
Mike (SnapKnot)
