We are happy to announce our new integration with SmugMug! Using SmugMug’s robust API, this integration allows photographers with both SnapKnot and SmugMug accounts to link the two and pull their photos, slideshows and video directly into their SnapKnot profile!

This integration is available for Diamond level members and is easy to set up.

Simply go to your Dashboard and click the Edit Profile page. Scroll down until you see the section about SmugMug Pro:

Click “Link your SmugMug account with SnapKnot” and it will bring you to the SmugMug login screen:

Enter your login info as normal and it will ask you to authorize SnapKnot to access your SmugMug account:

This authorization can be removed at any time from your SmugMug control panel:

On approved, it will redirect you back to your Edit Profile page on SnapKnot where you can select which galleries to link. Photos will be pulled into your gallery and slideshows and video will be pulled into the video section – it’s that easy!

Tell us a bit about yourself.

The owners, Jason and Trish, are a brother and sister wedding and portrait photography team. Jason went to Vancouver Film School where he graduated to work on films and TV as a camera assistant. Jason soon realised this was not his true passion and followed his heart to open Callaghan Photography.

He found the perfect business partner as his sister, Trish, had shot many friends weddings in the months and years prior to the inception of Callaghan Photography. Trish has a background in medical imaging, and uses her intimate knowledge of exposure and contrast to create vibrant images. Since founding Callaghan Photography, Jason and Trish have the motive to raise the standard of wedding photography in Vancouver and British Columbia. Trish and Jason both love sports, particularly ice hockey. They are both married. Trish has a daughter, Jason has a cat.

Why did you choose to become a photographer?

Photography is a passion for both Jason and Trish. They have both traveled extensively where they have been fortunate enough to enjoy photography whilst further developing their skills. Having been through the wedding planning and hectic wedding day themselves, Trish and Jason felt they could offer their insights to happy couples whilst capturing their most intimate moments. One thing Trish and Jason learned is having two professional photographers is a must. “

Having a male photographer allows the men to act as themselves leading to fantastic candid “mate” shots. A female photographer, having being through a wedding day herself can anticipate the flow of the day whilst offering assistance to the nervous bride.” “Being prepared matters” stated Trish as she tells of a story on one occasion a bride was about to break down due to one of the hooks on the corset breaking. “It was nothing a safety pin on the inside couldn’t fix…..and nobody could even see it!” Trish and Jason work great with wedding couples. Communication and understanding is the key. Also, being calm is essential as it will rub off onto those around you. And let’s face it, on the wedding day you are surrounded by everyone that matters!

How long have you been a photographer?

Trish and Jason have played with cameras for as long as they can remember. Their father was a highly skilled amateur photographer who had a love for black and white compositions. Trish and Jay have continued to develop their passion ever since. It was in 2009 that Jason approached Trish with the prospect of wedding photography, and Callaghan Photography was born.

How would you classify your style of photography?

I would say Trish is more traditional with her approach. She delights in the artistic which is evidenced by her stunning bride portraits. Jason, however, prefers the photojournalistic approach. “I love people in their natural element. Seeing eyes meeting and interlocking cannot be staged. That said, I love what Trish can do and I believe our styles complement each other’s.”

Who or what are some of your influences on either a personal or professional level?

Professionally, Vincent Laforet is a standout as a photographer and director. His vision and ability to translate this to the viewer is unparalleled. Personally, our families have been incredible and have encouraged us to pursue our passion.

What’s your preferred type of camera equipment?

We love the great selection of lenses and bodies from Canon. We cannot live with our L-series lenses and 5D MkII bodies. The 70-200L f2.8II is the wedding photographer’s best friend! We also love our macro and prime 50mm and 85mm lenses.

What would you recommend for a couple just starting their search for a wedding photographer?

For couples beginning their search, consider two things. First, search and find wedding photos that you like. You don’t have to understand why you like them (though this helps), you just have to like a style. Then find a photographer whose images match this style. If you find someone who fits the search, check their prices to see if they fit into your budget. If they lie outside of your budget, see if they have some “wriggle room”. Wedding photographers do have to make a living, but will generally try to make things work, especially outside of peak wedding season.

With a G+ page account, you automatically get hard wired to Google. Being on the front page of the search means you are known to be popular and get seen more! After all, when browsing Google, people hold out most of their hope for the results on the first page. MarketMeSuite – The Social Media Marketing Tool
MarketMeSuite is a free Social Media Dashboard which has a Photo sharing feature called Phto.Me. This is excellent for uploading and publishing photos to all your social media accounts in one go. Whenever you publish a photo via MarketMeSuite, it is automatically added to the official Phto.Me webpage so anyone can see it. and “Like” it on Facebook or Tweet it to their own audiences! MarketMeSuite also has a feature called “Reply Macros”. This is the ultimate search tool. It allows you to find users in your niche and start conversations, and it’s completely user controlled to maintain the highest quality. It helps you increase your follower base and allows you to locate the perfect market for your business by town or city. Select keywords you wish to search for, ie, “Wedding photos”. You can target within 1000 miles of a specific location. All you have to do is add the city, county, zip code, postal code. This way you can target the tweets/Facebook updates etc, close you where you are. It’s no use being a photographer in London yet talking to someone in Africa. This feature eliminates that and means you can search your local town and area as these are the people who will be interacting with you most and being converted into customers!
