Sandra of White Ivory Photography

Tell us a bit about yourself. I was born and raised in Quebec City, Canada, a far cry from Florida! My hubby and I have a wonderful two year old boy. He’s my pride and joy. We live in Bradenton, Florida. I’m a graphic designer by trade, which comes in pretty handy for my photography business. I love traveling and being outdoors. I’m not the “camping” kind of girl, but I think being in touch with nature gives you a different perspective on life.

Why did you choose to become a photographer? My husband is actually the person that got me into photography. We bought our first high end point and shoot camera as a couple. He taught me about the functions and inner working parts of the camera. I was hooked from then on. I kept practicing because I wanted so badly to learn and to get better. I finally decided to make a go of it and I don’t think I could ever turn back. I absolutely love what I do and am inspired by the people I photograph.

How long have you been a photographer? I started out about seven years ago. I finally bought my first DSLR back in 2006. I officially started my business last year.

How would you classify your style of photography? I think my style of photography is fun and romantic. I also love to add creativity by thinking outside the box and working outside my comfort zone. Capturing the unexpected moments is also very important to me. That’s when you see true emotion. It’s phenomenal!

Who or what are some of your influences on either a personal or professional level? On a personal level, my husband is my influence. I admire his “zen” like attitude and demeanor and I think I secretly “strive” to be like him! On a professional level, I am inspired by other great photographers out there. I have my favorites and I am always amazed at the creativity that they bring to their craft.

Do you have any good wedding stories? Just as a generality, I’m a big softy when if comes to couples in love. I’ve shed a few tears during the ceremony. But that will be our little secret.

What’s your preferred type of camera equipment? I am a Nikon girl! Camera’s, flashes, lenses, you name it, it’s Nikon.

What would you recommend for a couple just starting their search for a wedding photographer? Find a photographer that meshes with your personality. One that you feel you can open up to and talk to, almost like a friend. I don’t think you will feel comfortable otherwise. Also, I believe that customer service is important too. You might not get what you’re looking for with the photography that takes forever to get back to you. I just think that it’s important to be responsive. Clients are entrusting you with a big piece of their wedding day. You need to return that trust.

Any fun personal facts we should know about you?

I drive my husband a little nutty because I talk about camera equipment
a lot!

I love chocolate and wine.

I am big into science fiction movies. My girlfriends think I’m weird for liking sci-fi.

SPECIAL OFFER: I’d like to offer brides 10% off the purchase of a wedding package (offer code: SNAPKNOT).

Michelle and Ryan have always had a special connection with New Year’s Eve, so I wasn’t terribly surprised when Michelle announced that they were choosing this epic party holiday for their amazing Lakeland wedding! [...] Michelle and Ryan tied the knot in a late-evening Catholic ceremony surrounded by their family and friends, and let the party kick in to gear at their high-energy reception. When the clock struck midnight, the entire party celebrated with a ceiling balloon drop, lots of champagne and lots of kissing! But the best part…

Tallahassee Husband & Wife Wedding Photographers: Shutter Pop Photo

Shutter Pop Photo is our newest wedding photography team out of Tallahassee, FL. We had a chance to ask Spencer and Ashley of Shutter Pop a few questions so you could learn more about them:

Tell us a bit about yourselves:
Shutter Pop Photo is the husband and wife team of Spencer and Ashley Hopkins. We both came to Tallahassee, FL for college, met in the dorms, and got married just under 4 years later.

Why did you choose to become photographers?
We’re both very visual people with a strong background in art and
art history.
Spencer: I got into filmmaking while in high school and pursued it in college. In 2004 I got a job as a wedding videographer and fell in love with the job. That then led to a gig as a wedding photographer where I started learning more and more about SLRs. The knowledge and learning has been non-stop since.
Ashley: I’ve been an artist since I was a wee one. I’ll never forget the art contest I won in 2nd grade! My poster hung in the Hawaii International Airport for a full month. In college, I concentrated heavily on medical illustration. When our daughter was born and we were gifted a professional camera, I caught the shutter bug!

How would you classify your style of photography?
Spencer: not sure if I follow any particular style, but I do try to make my photos look very cinematic, taking part of my college aspirations as a filmmaker into another realm.
Ashley: I’m a fan of candid and natural photography.

Who or what are some of your influences on either a personal or professional level?
Spencer: Joe McNally’s photography and attitude is a big influence for me, I have learned a lot about flash photography and its possibilities from watching behind-the-scenes videos of him, as well as reading Joe’s books.
Ashley: I’m a huge fan of the recently discovered street photographer, Vivian Maier. Every picture of hers speaks volumes!

What’s your preferred type of camera equipment?
Nikon is the preferred choice ’round these parts. Love the versatility of their CLS (creative lighting system) using remote speedlights.

What would you recommend for a couple just starting their search for a wedding photographer?
For the couple looking for a photographer, pick which photographers you like by style and meet with them. Then choose whose personality you like best. You’ll either be miserable posing for your pictures with someone whose demeanor clashes with yours, or you’ll have a blast letting the photog snap away. I read the following idea in Marcus Bell’s “Master Wedding Photography” – if price is a concern, weigh what’s most important to you. Instead of making a gift registry, ask friends, family, and guests to contribute to a fund to hire the photographer you want – you’ll never regret it. Your wedding only happens once in your life, you can always buy material goods later, but you can never get photos of your wedding when it’s over if they didn’t happen at that time.

What else should our readers know about you?
We’re both vegan, twenty-five years old, have a three year old daughter and a great sense of humor.
