Tell us a bit about yourself.

I have been taking photos with SLR cameras since I was 14. I have a minor in Art Photography and worked at my college newspaper as a photographer/photo editor. I am an easy going photographer. I welcome suggestions from the bride and groom, and am always willing to try something new and different.

Why did you choose to become a photographer?

Though I have loved photography sine I was a kid, and got my first SLR camera at 14-years old, I didn’t dream of emerging myself into the wedding world until I watched my best friend get screwed over. She was only given a limited number of photos, though she paid for the photographers to be there all night, and was only given one photo from her bridal shoot, which was her least favorite. That’s when I thought the game needed to be changed, and I was going to be the one to do it.

How long have you been a photographer?

So, though I have over 10 years of experience with photography, I only count 8-years as my professional experience.

How would you classify your style of photography?

I take a range of artistic — Still-life and set-up — photos as well as utilize my journalism background for that once-in-a-lifetime catch. Using Photoshop, I not only clean up fly-away-hairs but can create romantic lighting where mother-nature did not cooperate.

Who or what are some of your major influences on a personal or professional level?

I am influenced by many different photographers, none in particular. I find myself perusing amazing photos on Flickr for inspiration.

Do you have any good wedding stories?

My husband works as my assistant for weddings and photo-shoots. He never had any formal training other than what I taught him. His first wedding, he was super nervous. He didn’t want to mess up any of the photos and didn’t want to let me down. We were shooting in a beautiful chapel on the University of Houston campus and it had a second story balcony. I managed to get a key and placed him up there with the zoom lenses. So while he was stationary for the wedding, I was running around like a crazy person. At the end of the day, he apologized to me and said he didn’t think he had any spectacular photos. I looked through his stuff and found one of the gem’s I proudly display (the aerial photo of the bride and groom exiting). It is still one of my favorite photos. Since then, he has become more and more confident in his skills and has produced many gems from weddings and photo-shoots alike.

What’s your preferred type of camera equipment?

I work with Nikon cameras. I have a D300s and my husband works with a D80. I use off camera flashes and studio lights that I take with me almost everywhere I go. I work with several different lenses from a 14mm (fish eye) to a zoom lenses.

What would you recommend for a couple just starting their search for a wedding photographer?

For couples looking for wedding photographers, I would first seek out a photographer who’s photographic style is similar to your own. If you aren’t a pearls and crystal kind of couple, make sure you don’t pick a photographer who leans more toward high-fashion.

Any fun personal facts we should know about you?

My favorite holiday is Halloween — My anniversary. I hate that Cannon is winning the digital battle. I’ve lived in Houston my whole life (except for a 4-year hiatus in Lubbock for collage), and am fanatical about the Texans (football team). I love taking photos of contrasting things, like a beautiful bride leaning against a crumbling wall. I do my own HTML coding for my website.

I burn my edited photos onto a disc, which I send to the Bride and Groom to print and share as they desire. I love to give discounts. I give a 20% discount for multiple booked shoots, like a bridal shoot and the wedding. I work with an extraordinary make-up artist, who has done several of the make-ups for my clients ( ). I give discounts to brides who choose to work with both of us.
